Cosmetic Tattoo Aftercare

Aftercare advice for permanent Eyebrow, Eyeliner, Lip Blushing/Lightening healing.

Immediately after a cosmetic tattooing procedure the area treated will look about 30% - 50% darker than the final results. This is temporary, the colour will lighten and soften over 3 to 14 days. It is normal for the area to feel slightly tender or dry. Here are some instructions and tips to follow to look after your cosmetic tattoo -
  • Use a barrier cream like Bepanthen or Vitamin A & D Ointment. This is a gentle cream which assists in the skin’s natural healing process. It will prevent infections and scabbing and will hydrate and soothe the tattooed area.
  • Apply the cream 2-3 times a day for the first week, then twice a day for the second week, and always before & after showering (do not use soap on the treated area).
Do’s and Don’ts

  • Avoid direct sun exposure for the first 2 weeks. Exposure to the sun over time can cause fading.
  • No make-up, soap or cleansers is to be applied to the treated area for the first 5 days.
  • Don’t scrub the treated area, crusting will fall off naturally please don’t force it.
  • Skin creams that contain acids or retinol may lighten the colour prematurely with continuous use.
  • No spas, saunas or steam rooms for 2 weeks. Steam will open pores and may make the colour bleed out.
  • Do not wax, pluck or bleach the tint for at least 3 weeks. Its ok to pluck around the area.
  • Do not use Retin-A for at least 2 weeks prior to treatment and 4 weeks after the treatment.
  • No fillers or anti-wrinkle injections such as Restylane or Botox on or near the treated areas 2 weeks before or after treatment

Eyeliner Care

Expect the eye to be slightly tender 1-3 days. Swelling is minimal and with most clients it will subside within 24 hours. It is not necessary to apply any aftercare cream. If needed, apply a small amount of Bepanthen, less is better. Cold pads can be applied to minimise swelling. Do not use eye liner and mascara for 5 days.

Lip Care

The lip colour will be much brighter for the first 3-5 days. It will then fade to no colour and re-appear after 3-6 weeks. Cream must be applied constantly as your lips will be very dry. Keep them moist and if you suffer from cold sores we advise to visit your doctor and get an anti-viral medication prior to your appointment.  Avoid using teeth whitening tooth paste if you have had a lip tattoo. Chemicals of any kind can interfere with healing and the colour.
With Lip lighening the lips have a tendancy to go darker for a couple of weeks while healing.

Saline Removal aftercare

Pigment (Tattoo) Removal

It is critical to follow all aftercare instructions to prevent complications, scarring and to achieve optimum results.

  1. Keep the area clean and open to the air. Do not cover with a Band-Aid or anything else, leave open to air. Air/oxygen provides good and faster healing. You should not be touching the area at all
  2. Clean by blotting the area with a paper towel or gauze with saline.
  3. Do not soak the treated area in water. You can shower as normal but keep the area out of the shower spray as best you can and do not let the area stay wet for  more than a few minutes. It is best to keep it dry
but if you do get it wet gently pat dry.
  4. No Swimming, Saunas, hot tubs, tanning or exercise for 48 hours.
  5. Do not disrupt the scabbing process (i.e. no picking, scratching, etc.) All scabbing needs to fall off naturally. If you force or pick a scab off you will disrupt the process and possibly cause scarring. It is critical to keep the scabs on as long as possible to achieve optimum results.
  6. Once all scabbing has naturally fallen off, apply a small amount Vitamin A&D Ointment 2 to 3 times a day until finished.
*If you notice any redness or inflammation, stop using the aftercare ointment immediately as you could be allergic to it.
  • It is important to the process and integrity of the skin that full healing takes place before another lightening session can be done.
  • Lightening and/or removing unwanted pigment is a long process and patience is required. This is true whether you are choosing a lightening product service or  laser. Please be patient and give the process a fair chance to work.
  • How many sessions needed will depend on how saturated the pigment is, how deep it was implanted and how much needs to be removed for the desired result. In many cases only a percentage of the pigment needs to be lightened/removed and then we can continue the correction process by colour correcting or colour
shifting. In those cases where we have pigment misplaced or in an unwanted area, colour correcting will not be an option and removing as much of the pigment as possible will be our ultimate goal.
  • For these reasons results cannot be foreseen, predicted or guaranteed
